SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on designing a Rainfall Driven Micro Hydro-Generating System, which aims to produce 30 W at 12 V regulated DC. Key formulas identified include P = net head x flow x g, essential for calculating power output. Participants emphasize the need for additional formulas to accurately assess rainfall flow and system efficiency. Resources such as Wikipedia articles on hydroelectric power and micro hydro generation are recommended for foundational knowledge.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of hydroelectric power generation principles
  • Familiarity with the formula P = net head x flow x g
  • Knowledge of micro hydro system components
  • Basic electrical engineering concepts related to DC systems
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the calculation methods for rainfall flow rates
  • Study additional formulas for hydro power generation efficiency
  • Explore design considerations for micro hydro systems
  • Learn about the impact of net head on power output in hydro systems
USEFUL FOR

Engineers, renewable energy enthusiasts, and students involved in designing or studying micro hydro-generating systems will benefit from this discussion.

Homework Statement

I need to design a Rainfall Driven Micro Hydro-Generating System
Under normal operation, the generating system is expected to produce 30 W at 12 V regulated DC

Homework Equations

1st how to calculate the flow of rainfall
2nd: what are the formulas that I should use?
and what do I need to calculate?

The Attempt at a Solution

I found the formula P = net head x flow x g
I still need the remaining formulas

Welcome to the PF.

This wikipedia article is a good intro to hydroelectric power generation:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydroelectricity

And it has a link out to the article on Micro Hydro generation. These articles would be a good place to start your research for your project.
