SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on the need for software capable of reading .CAM files generated by FastCAM to verify measurements for elliptical hole cutting. Users require a program that allows visual inspection of the plot and measurement extraction, enabling untrained personnel to confirm the accuracy of cut sizes without needing to write .CAM files. The conversation highlights the importance of having a dedicated viewer for .CAM files to streamline the verification process in manufacturing settings.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of .CAM file formats and their applications in manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with FastCAM software and its functionalities.
  • Basic knowledge of measurement techniques in machining processes.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM systems for visualizing cutting paths.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research software options for viewing and measuring .CAM files, specifically those compatible with FastCAM.
  • Explore tools that provide measurement capabilities for CAD files, such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
  • Investigate the integration of measurement tools within existing CAM software.
  • Learn about best practices for verifying cut sizes in machining operations.
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for manufacturing engineers, CNC operators, and quality assurance personnel involved in machining processes, particularly those working with .CAM files and needing to verify cut dimensions efficiently.

Are there any program that be be used to read a .CAM file and pull measurements from the program.

Where I work we cut some elliptical holes that must have their size verified before cut. It would be benefical to have a reader program that let's you view the plot (not just the code) and take measurements off of it. That way someone who is not trained to write .CAM files can determine if the cut size for a previously written program is correct.

Can you be more specific about the source of your .CAM files? This type of file extension is unfortunately not unique.

The files are produced by fast cam, not a digital camera.
