Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around finding a tool or program to calculate and simulate the trajectories of comets influenced by planetary gravity. Participants are exploring alternatives to using Excel for this purpose, focusing on software that offers a graphical interface.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant seeks a freeware program to simulate comet trajectories with a graphical interface, as their teacher currently uses Excel.
  • Another participant questions the term "projectory" and clarifies that they believe the request is for plotting the trajectory of a comet.
  • A suggestion is made to use Gravity Simulator as a potential solution for plotting comet trajectories.
  • A later reply indicates that the suggested tool may meet the original participant's needs.
  • Another participant offers assistance with setting up simulations and recommends a beta version of a different simulator specifically for comets.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the need for a better simulation tool, but there are multiple suggestions for different software options, and no consensus on a single preferred solution has been reached.

Contextual Notes

The discussion does not clarify the specific features or requirements desired in the simulation tool, nor does it address potential limitations of the suggested software.

Who May Find This Useful

Students and educators interested in simulating celestial mechanics and comet trajectories may find this discussion relevant.

Hi
(I hope I'm posting in the right place)
In physics class we are currently working with projectories of comets etc. that reach the orbit of planets, and get pulled in by its gravity. My teacher is currently doing the work in an excel document, but has requested a better solution for calculating the projectories.
Does anyone know of a program (freeware is prefferable) that can simulate such projectories with a graphic interface? Or has any ideas of how it could be accomplished without having to do it in excel? Any comments on the matter appreciated.

Does anyone of of such an application?

What is a projectory? Do you simply want to plot the trajectory of a comet? You could use Gravity Simulator: www.gravitysimulator.com

I believe that was what I have been looking for.

Thank you tony873004.

If you need help setting up your simulations let me know. For comets, you might prefer the beta version:
