Space-Time Curve in Black Holes: What Does It Mean?

Click For Summary
SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the concept of space-time curvature in black holes, specifically how gravity distorts the fabric of space-time. Participants explain that a black hole creates a puncture in this fabric, leading to unpredictable time flow near the singularity. The notion of "space curves into itself" refers to the extreme warping of space-time caused by the immense gravitational pull of a black hole, resulting in time approaching negative infinity at the singularity. This phenomenon is a fundamental aspect of general relativity.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of general relativity
  • Familiarity with black hole physics
  • Basic knowledge of space-time concepts
  • Awareness of singularity and its implications
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the mathematical framework of general relativity
  • Explore the concept of singularity in black holes
  • Study the effects of gravity on space-time curvature
  • Learn about observational evidence for black holes, such as gravitational waves
USEFUL FOR

Astronomy enthusiasts, physicists, and students studying astrophysics will benefit from this discussion, particularly those interested in the complexities of black hole mechanics and space-time theories.

in black holes it is said that space curves into itself and flow of time is not predicatble. what does these actually signify? what is "space curves into itself "?

I have never heard such statements.
Please provide references where these were said.

I think:
As gravity distorts the fiber of space time, a black hole makes a hole (punctures) the fabric of space time. So at the hole the time is not predictabel. its like a hole in simple graphs. I think time tends to negative infinity to the past to the time of big band, the "singularity". that's just me, not a professional.
