SUMMARY

A consensus among astronomers indicates that a supernova was likely visible from Earth in 2241 BC, although it remains undocumented in historical records. The discussion references sources such as the Messier catalog and a study from TIFR, which suggest the existence of this astronomical event. However, skepticism exists regarding the reliability of these sources, leading to a debate about the validity of the claims surrounding the supernova.

PREREQUISITES
  • Basic understanding of supernova phenomena
  • Familiarity with historical astronomical documentation
  • Knowledge of the Messier catalog
  • Awareness of astronomical research methodologies
NEXT STEPS
  • Investigate the Messier catalog for documented supernovae
  • Review the TIFR study on historical supernova searches
  • Explore the implications of undocumented astronomical events
  • Study the methods used in historical astronomy for event validation
USEFUL FOR

Astronomy enthusiasts, historians of science, and researchers interested in the documentation of astronomical events will benefit from this discussion.

supernova in 2241 bc??

do most astronomers agree that there should have been a supernova visible from Earth during this period but it wasnt documented

seems like it's "dubiously listed in some source"

so I guess it's a possibility
