SUMMARY

The First World War has officially concluded with Germany's final reparations payment of $94 million, marking the financial end of the conflict. While the war's hostilities ceased in 1918 with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, the financial obligations continued until this recent payment. This conclusion raises questions about the long-term implications of the Treaty of Versailles and its role in shaping future conflicts, particularly World War II.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of the Treaty of Versailles and its historical context
  • Knowledge of World War I and its key events
  • Familiarity with post-war reparations and their economic impact

  • Investigate the historical significance of the armistice agreements

The end of the war, finally! [WWI]

It’s taken a bit longer than expected, but WWI is officially over. I know what you’re thinking; didn’t the first World War end in 1919 when Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the others sign the Treaty of Versailles with the US, British, and French in that train car? Well yes and no. The hostilities officially ended, but as part of the armistice, the Germans had to pay reparations to the French, British, and Americans for their actions during the war. Germany, with a last payment of $94 million dollars (or 59.5 million pounds) has officially paid off WWI.

“On Sunday the last bill is due and the First World War finally, financially at least, terminates for Germany...

You would think that WWII would have cleared up the mistake that was the Treaty of Versailles. What a silly gesture, if Germany did it of their own volition.

I hope the check doesn't clear. My Packard Le Père-Lusac II never did see combat.
