SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the optical phenomenon known as "sundogs," which creates the illusion of three suns in the sky due to atmospheric conditions. Participants reference various resources, including an article on Risethemag and a comprehensive guide on atmospheric optical effects from Atoptics. The phenomenon is attributed to light refraction and reflection, rather than an actual presence of three suns. Additionally, the conversation touches on historical interpretations of this phenomenon by ancient mystics, linking it to philosophical concepts.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of atmospheric optics and light refraction
  • Familiarity with the concept of sundogs
  • Basic knowledge of historical philosophical interpretations of natural phenomena
  • Ability to access and interpret scientific articles and resources
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the scientific principles behind atmospheric optical phenomena
  • Explore the effects of light refraction in different atmospheric conditions
  • Study the historical context of ancient mysticism and its interpretations of natural events
  • Investigate other atmospheric phenomena such as halos and parhelia
USEFUL FOR

Anyone interested in atmospheric science, educators teaching natural phenomena, and individuals exploring the intersection of science and philosophy will benefit from this discussion.

If you think about it, every star that you can see on the night sky is someone/something's sun.

So there really is billions of suns that we can see every night.

i think its due to the reflection of light or something?

u can see the rays at the sides curved to the middle part

Yeah, you can see that the light is bended in a circle, most likely caused by the lens.

Can't open the link, but the effect is called sundogs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_dog
Unless it's a camera fault

this means that it isn't 3 suns in the sky but a reflection

Sorry to nitpick, but it's only about three thousand.

To drag this discussion away from physics into the occult, the ancient mystics believed in 3 suns: the first represents the material world governed by the gnostic demiurgus (in Christianity the holy spirit), the second the light of intellect which is governed by Lucifer (the evils of intellect without faith), and the third, and greatest, sun represents the supreme light of faith, and is governed by the Christ.

After viewing an effect such as this it is easy to see where the ancients got these "3 suns" they were speculating about.
