SUMMARY

This discussion centers on calculating the uncertainty associated with opacity meters, specifically for measuring smoke emissions from diesel car exhausts. The user seeks practical instructions and a model for statistical methods to quantify this uncertainty. Key influencing factors affecting the uncertainty in measurements are also requested, indicating a need for a comprehensive understanding of the operational principles of opacity meters.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of statistical methods for uncertainty analysis
  • Familiarity with opacity meters and their operational principles
  • Knowledge of diesel engine emissions and environmental regulations
  • Experience with measurement uncertainty calculations
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the principles of operation for opacity meters
  • Study statistical methods for calculating measurement uncertainty
  • Explore the factors influencing smoke emissions in diesel engines
  • Find practical examples or models for uncertainty calculations in environmental measurements
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for environmental engineers, emissions testing technicians, and researchers focused on air quality measurement and regulatory compliance in automotive emissions.

Please, I need practical instruction/calculation to find the uncertainty associated with the use of opacity meters (smoke meters). I cannot even start to calculate; I cannot find anything on this topic.
Thx a lot.

The uncertainty? What do you mean?

Well, I need to calculate uncertainty by using statistical methods, which I generally have. But I need influencing factors which are contributing to mentioned uncertainty, for instrument called opacity meter (smoke meter).
That instrument measures, if smoke at car exhaust (for diesel cars only) is too thick, literally.
Practical model of calculation would be perfect, if someone have it.

Thanks for every effort to help me.
Best regards.
