SUMMARY

The US government exerted pressure on African and Latin American countries to withdraw a resolution promoting breastfeeding over formula, which is primarily produced by large Western corporations. This action included threats of trade and military aid withdrawal, highlighting a conflict between corporate interests and public health. In contrast, Russia capitalized on this situation by sponsoring the resolution without facing repercussions from the US. The discussion underscores the ongoing tension between health advocacy and corporate influence in global policy.

NY Times article here.
Opposing the promotion of breast feeding over using formula (sold by big western companies), the US threatened trade and military aid to Africa and Latin America countries if they did not with draw a resolution.
Russia, seizing the moral high ground, sponsored the resolution and got no apparent blow back from the US.

Breast feeding has many, well known, health benefits (see links in the article).

This seems to be an aggressive move, by the US, in support of corporate interests and away from health concerns!
