SUMMARY

The discussion centers on venting a propane fridge installed in a truck campershell. The proposed solution involves using flat cookie baking pans with pencil-sized holes to create a venting system that prevents propane from entering the cabin while driving at high speeds. Additionally, the conversation highlights safety concerns regarding the legality of transporting gas appliances while in motion, referencing Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations. It is noted that RV fridges with triple energy capabilities, including 12 V DC, are designed for safe operation while driving.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of propane fridge installation and operation
  • Familiarity with ventilation techniques for gas appliances
  • Knowledge of Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations

Just throwing some ideas togethor if anyone ones to comment!

Setup:
Propane fridge by truck campershell window

Problem:
Needs to vent
Drive on the road at 70 mph without blowing out
Not let propane into the cabin

Solution:
Several completely flat cookie baking pans with holes size of a pencil cut into them, offset holes from one pan to another of course to slow the air down because it has to change direction, and spacers between the pans maybe 2 quarters thick or thicker?

From the fridge to the campershell so propane won't leak into the camper...those disposable jiffy thick metal turkey roasting trays and

Glue?
Tape?
Caulking?
Something propane leak proof and maybe not permanent

Thread is closed. From a Mentor discussion about your posts:

Sounds dangerous and probably illegal. In most places there are Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations in place that prohibit such things. For RVs the regulations state that gas appliance tank valves must be closed when the RV is moving.

Some fridges designed for RV use have triple energy capabilities: mains power, gas, and 12 V DC. The 12 V DC is intended for use while in motion, powered by the towing vehicle.
