The discussion revolves around suggestions for unique physics-themed band names. Participants share creative ideas, explore the implications of names, and consider the audience's familiarity with physics terminology.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant suggests "The Valence Band" and considers shortening "Quantum Chromodynamics of Time" to "Quantum Chromatics."
  • Another participant proposes names like "The Band Gap Filters," "QED," "Psi Squared," and "Supermassive Black Holes."
  • Multiple participants mention "Time Dilation" and "Naked Physics" as potential names.
  • Concerns are raised about the spelling of complex names like "Quantum Chromodynamics," with some arguing that a geeky audience would know how to spell it.
  • Suggestions include "P-branes," "String Theory," "Ultraviolet Catastrophe," and "Forbidden Transition."
  • One participant expresses frustration that some preferred names are already taken, such as "Time Dilation" and "M Theory."
  • Another participant humorously suggests "Hairy Black Holes" and "Electron Degenerates."
  • Names like "The Fig Newtons" and "The Homo Sapiens" are also introduced as playful options.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally share a variety of suggestions without a clear consensus on a single name. Some express preferences for certain names while others introduce new ideas, indicating a lively exchange of opinions.

Contextual Notes

Some names suggested may already be in use, and participants express concern about the accessibility of certain terms for a non-geek audience.

That would be because as far as I know you have to register with Facebook in order to access any of their stuff. I would rather have my left nut crushed in a vise than become involved with those idiots.

And thank you for making me imagine that. Now my pubic region is hurting for no reason.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way.

I like the name The Fig Newtons. Maybe I'll make a band and call ourselves The Fig Newtons since that guy wants to use some other name.

Don't come crawling back wanting to use The Fig Newtons, because I'll already be using it. But I'll let you have The Fig Einsteins, if you're lucky.

Lol I love Quantum Chromatics, but I'd definitely want to tour with The Fig Newtons
