A user is seeking a free 3D plotting solution for post-processing CFD runs on Ubuntu 10.04, as they are experiencing difficulties compiling plot3d. They mention mayavi2, which is limited to displaying one block of data at a time and does not support full multiblock structured grids. Suggestions from the community include GNU Plot and Maxima CAS, both of which are free. Additionally, GNU Plot's integration with Octave, a free alternative to MATLAB, is highlighted as a potential advantage for users looking for similar functionality.

Hey guys, quick question,

I am in a little bit of a bind. I need a 3D plotter to post-proc some CFD runs at home. I have typically used plot3d in the past, but am having trouble getting it to compile on my machine (Ubuntu 10.04). I did a search and there's another program which can handle this called mayavi2. Unfortunately, mayavi2 cannot handle a full multiblock structured grid; it will only show one block of data at a time.

Does anyone know of anything else I might be able to use? Free...preferable.

Thanks,

There is a GNU Plot, and Maxima CAS which are freely available. GNU plot is also integrated with octave, a free matlab-like software.
