SUMMARY

The discussion centers on identifying a specific part used in an animatronic eye mechanism, ultimately concluding that the correct term is "universal joint." Participants confirmed this identification through video evidence and provided links to relevant resources, including a Wikipedia page on universal joints. The conversation highlights the importance of precise terminology in mechanical components, particularly in animatronics.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of animatronic mechanisms
  • Familiarity with mechanical joints, specifically universal joints
  • Basic knowledge of video analysis for mechanical motion
  • Research skills for sourcing mechanical parts
NEXT STEPS
  • Research "universal joint specifications" for detailed understanding
  • Explore "animatronic design principles" for broader context
  • Investigate "ball-socket coupling mechanisms" for alternative solutions
  • Learn about "sourcing mechanical components" for animatronics
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for animatronic designers, hobbyists in robotics, and engineers involved in mechanical design, particularly those working with joint mechanisms.

Hello All. I'm searching for this part and also have video footage of it in motion. I cannot find it to finish the eye mechanism because I don't know what it's called. Can anyone tell me what it is? I would greatly appreciate it. Even companies dealing in such parts as well as metal fittings have steered me wrong. Thanks in advance.

I would think it is some kind of ball-socket coupling, or universal joint coupling.

What are you calling it?

Nice video by the way.
