Dark matter is not, as far as I'm aware, dreaded in the least so I'm no sure what you meant by that.
I think the only alternate theories that work even some of the time are various flavors of MOND, but while they quite well on the scales of a galaxy, they fail for galactic clusters and so require their own version of dark matter, thus not really getting rid of it at all.
Welcome to the forum and be careful to read the rules. They actually matter here.
The bullet cluster has become the most cited piece of evidence against MOND. The problem is that, even after consideration of MOND, there remains an unexplained mass discrepancy. This is generally the case in rich clusters, the bullet cluster merely shows the general effect in spectacular fashion.
Hi, I am a neurosurgeon from Turkey with an interest in physics. I don't have formal training in theoretical physics or advanced mathematics, but i enjoy trying to build intuition about spacetime.
I joined Physics Forums to ask conceptual questions, learn where my intuitions break down, and get feedback from people who understand the formal theory much better than I do.
Looking forward to learning from the discussions here.
