The feed hold button on a CNC lathe, also referred to as the cycle stop button, pauses program execution and stops the movement of the axes, but does not affect the spindle's RPM. It does not move the tool aside to a specific point; rather, it simply halts operations. While it can be used to interrupt a cycle, it is not advisable to activate it during a cutting operation. This functionality is crucial for ensuring safety and precision during machining tasks. Understanding its operation is essential for effective CNC lathe management.

Hello everyone!

We are translating a manual for a CNC lathe and need help with one unclear phrase.
Here is the phrase:

"CYCLE STOP

This is the feedstop buton. Once activated, it moves axes in hold and interrupts program execution."

Could anyone explain what this button does exactly?
Does it just stop the feed along the axes or really moves something like a tool aside (to a certain point)?

Thank you

What mathematics software should engineering students use? Is it correct that much of the engineering industry relies on MATLAB, making it the tool many graduates will encounter in professional settings? How does SageMath compare? It is a free package that supports both numerical and symbolic computation and can be installed on various platforms. Could it become more widely used because it is freely available? I am an academic who has taught engineering mathematics, and taught the...
