TL;DR
I'd like to know which sleeping positions are favored by our members who respond. I sleep maybe 1/6 supine, 1/6 pronate, 1/6 right side, 1/2 left side. If on side, I tend to support my head with one hand, and leave the other arm outstretched.

The last few days I have had a slightly bad back. Last night for the first time in ages I slept for a while on my front (pronate). My back is getting better

Maybe that's a response to a change, rather than something advisable as a long-term practice ##-## over time, that position tends to strain the lower back.

Consider trying a pillow under your knees when sleeping on your back. I started doing that a few years ago, and it really eases the stress on your lower back when sleeping on your back. When I roll to my side when sleeping, I move that pillow to between my knees, which is also more comfortable for me.
