SUMMARY

The discussion focuses on creating an effective parachute for an egg drop assignment, emphasizing the importance of material selection and design. Participants recommend using lightweight materials such as plastic bags or fabric for the parachute canopy, while also suggesting the incorporation of balloons for additional buoyancy. The ovular suspension module should be filled with toilet paper to provide cushioning upon impact. Trial and error is highlighted as a valuable approach in optimizing the parachute's performance.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of basic physics principles related to gravity and air resistance
  • Familiarity with materials such as plastic bags, fabric, and balloons
  • Knowledge of design concepts for creating a parachute
  • Experience with trial and error methods in engineering projects
NEXT STEPS
  • Research effective parachute designs for egg drop projects
  • Learn about the physics of air resistance and its impact on falling objects
  • Explore different materials and their properties for parachute construction
  • Investigate methods for cushioning impacts in drop experiments
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for high school students, educators, and anyone involved in engineering projects focused on physics and design challenges, particularly those related to egg drop assignments.

I was scrounging through my bag and noticed i have an assginment due tommorow... basically i have to make a paracute to glide an egg to the grund. on the end of my strings should be a hook to attach to an ovular suspention module... what size material etc should i use... ? ty for ur help

Trial and error is a time tested technique! :)

What qualities of the parachute/egg system do you think are important to the problem at hand?

Freshman at my high school do this. Are you allowed to use any other materials? A lot of people tie balloons to it. On the ovular suspension module you should stuff as much toilet paper as you can in there to cushion the blow.
