Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around resources for learning about the spin connection and the differential form of Einstein's equations, particularly in the context of quantum gravity as presented by Carlo Rovelli. Participants seek guidance on where to find appropriate materials and explanations.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses difficulty in finding resources on the differential form of Einstein's equations and the concept of spin connection.
  • Another participant suggests that Wald's text does cover the spin connection and recommends Sean Carroll's GR notes for a nice treatment of the vielbein and spin connection formalism.
  • A further suggestion is made to consult Nakahara's book on topology and geometry for a more rigorous treatment of the subject.
  • Additional resources mentioned include supergravity notes, specifically Samtleben's "intro to SUGRA," which are described as providing a nice introduction to the topic.
  • Participants express willingness to help with specific questions as they arise.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the usefulness of the suggested resources, but there is no consensus on a single best source, as multiple texts and notes are recommended.

Contextual Notes

Some participants may have different levels of familiarity with the concepts, which could affect their understanding of the recommended materials. The discussion does not resolve which resource is the most effective for learning about the spin connection.

Who May Find This Useful

Individuals interested in quantum gravity, general relativity, and supergravity, particularly those seeking foundational knowledge in these areas.

I want to teach Carlo Rovelii's Quantum Gravity by myself, however I got stuck just at beginning , I have never seen the differential form of Einstein equation and the conception of spin connecttion in common textbook such as Wald's, where can I learn these things?Help me!

The spin connection is treated in Wald. For a nice treatment of the vielbein and spin connection formalism, you could consult Sean Carroll's GR notes. For a more rigorous treatment you can take a look in Nakahara's topology and geometry book.

I'm really appreciated !

Also, a lot of supergravity notes give a nice treatment of the subject; for instance, Samtleben's "intro to SUGRA"-notes are really nice (and in my opinion the nicest first glance of SUGRA, if you're interested ;) ).

Good luck with it, and if you have specific questions, just put them here.

Thanks a lot, i will~
