Schools Which university is the best for a physics degree

AI Thread Summary
When considering the best universities in England for a physics degree, particularly with a focus on astrophysics, several institutions are frequently mentioned. Manchester is a popular choice, although recent increases in entry requirements may deter some applicants. Birmingham is also suggested as a viable alternative. The discussion emphasizes that the best university can vary based on specific interests within physics, such as theoretical physics, condensed matter, or particle physics. For those interested in astrophysics, it is recommended to explore programs that offer strong research opportunities and faculty expertise in that area. Overall, the choice of university should align with individual academic goals and the specific branch of physics one wishes to pursue.

I was just wondering which university, in england, would you say is the best for a physics degree. I was hoping to go to manchester, but they've put up their entry requirements too high, so I am thinking probably birmingham. Are there any other unis that you would suggest?

The one that is best for you?

Yes, either way the answer is going to be subjective, but anyway it might help if you narrowed it down to a specific subset of physics (theoretical, condensed matter, particle physics, etc)

Hey, I am Andreas from Germany. I am currently 35 years old and I want to relearn math and physics. This is not one of these regular questions when it comes to this matter. So... I am very realistic about it. I know that there are severe contraints when it comes to selfstudy compared to a regular school and/or university (structure, peers, teachers, learning groups, tests, access to papers and so on) . I will never get a job in this field and I will never be taken serious by "real"...
