The white corn mouse, a creature about an inch and a half long with
a two inch long tail, its normal habitat is the country side, as its staple diet is corn, as this creatures front teeth grow throughout its life time, evidence
of its territory can be found by the gnawed tree roots, fence posts etc.
But as farming is becoming more industrialised the white corn mouse
is being forced to seek a living in urban areas and utilise material not
found in the wild, for instance, it normally lines its nest with discarded animal hair
or sheeps wool, but as this is not available in an urban habitat it has
substituted these with man made material ie socks," upto twenty having
been found in one nest", This mouse is shy and cunning and none AFAIK
have been caught in man made traps, It has a life span of about five years
but only produces on average twenty young, Its territory can be upto
a five mile radius from its nest, It also has a liking for small shiny things
ie scraps of tin foil, earrings or other small items of jewelry, one can usually
tell if the white corn mouse is the culprit for missing items by it calling
card, three or four half millimetre diameter droppings, "given in exchange
for the missing item,s".
