Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around a mechanics problem involving the summation of moments about a point, specifically point A, in the context of determining tensions in cables and reactions at a support point. The original poster expresses confusion about obtaining three equations with only two unknowns, leading to an apparent inconsistency in the problem setup.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Assumption checking

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • The original poster attempts to find tensions in cables by summing moments about point A but encounters an issue with the number of equations versus unknowns. Some participants question the clarity of the problem statement, particularly regarding the mention of couples on the x-axis and z-axis, and suggest that the original poster provide more details about their approach.

Discussion Status

The discussion is ongoing, with participants seeking clarification on the original poster's method and the problem's requirements. There is a lack of explicit consensus, as some participants express frustration over the original poster's reluctance to share their detailed work, which is necessary for further assistance.

Contextual Notes

The original poster indicates that this problem is part of a quiz, which may impose constraints on the information they are willing or able to share. There is an emphasis on understanding the problem setup and the definitions involved.

What does it mean where it says it provides couples on x-axis and z axis?
Anyways what am I doing wrong?
my procedure is finding tension in cables by summing moments about point A. then with the tensions, finding reactions at A. However when i sum the moments about A I get 3 equations 2 unknowns and there is no solution to it.

Thanks in advance

Did you mean to post an image of the text as well as the picture?

Cannot tell without seeing your attempt.
Please post it typed into the text area, not as an image.

this was for a quiz in class I'm not about to write everything out again.

So you'd rather continue being unable to solve this sort of problem?
