AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the differences between the "What's New" and "New Posts" features on a forum. "What's New" combines new posts with profile updates and other media, while "New Posts" focuses solely on the latest posts, making it more useful for some users. Users noted discrepancies where certain posts appear in "What's New" but not in "New Posts." A solution was suggested to uncheck the "Show only: Unread" option to see consistent results. The conversation concludes with a query about the possibility of a permanent link for accessing the correct "New Posts" list.

What's New mixes a short list of new posts with a short list of the latest Profile posts. New Posts gives a longer list of the latest posts, which is more useful for me.

Yes, I prefer the "New Posts" as well, but why there are posts on top of the "What's New" list which do not show on top of the "New Posts"?

New Posts is a subset of What's New.

What's New also includes Insights and Media and stuff that are not posts.

I understand this, but I see posts in What's New that I don't see in New Posts.

Uncheck "Show only: Unread" in the upper left, then you should see the same.

Thanks to all. I've figured the source of my issue. It is that the URL to the New Posts (with Show only: Unread switched off) is not permanent. For example, it is "https://www.physicsforums.com/whats-new/posts/2221471/" at one time and "https://www.physicsforums.com/whats-new/posts/2221475/" at another. If I reuse an older one, I get strange results.

Then, the question is, is it possible to get a permanent link that consistently opens the correct list of New Posts (with Show only: Unread switched off)?
