SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the decision between pursuing a Master's in Mathematics versus Applied Mathematics for someone with a BS in Computer Science and a concentration in Applied Mathematics. The individual expresses a strong interest in Artificial Intelligence, particularly in Evolutionary Algorithms, Neural Networks, and Fuzzy Logic, with applications in 3D simulations. Participants suggest that a Master's in Applied Mathematics aligns better with these interests, as it focuses on practical applications rather than pure theoretical concepts like topology and algebra.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of Artificial Intelligence concepts, specifically Evolutionary Algorithms and Neural Networks.
  • Familiarity with Fuzzy Logic and its applications in simulations.
  • Knowledge of graduate-level coursework in Mathematics and Computer Science.
  • Basic principles of 3D simulations and their computational requirements.
NEXT STEPS
  • Research Master's programs in Applied Mathematics with a focus on AI applications.
  • Explore advanced courses in Evolutionary Algorithms and their implementation.
  • Study Fuzzy Logic frameworks and their integration into 3D simulation environments.
  • Investigate the role of Neural Networks in enhancing simulation accuracy and performance.
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for students and professionals in Computer Science and Mathematics, particularly those interested in advancing their education in Applied Mathematics to enhance their expertise in Artificial Intelligence and simulation technologies.

I have a BS in Computer Science w/Applied Mathematics concentration. I have taken some graduate courses in CS, but I'm thinking that I should pursue a Masters in Mathematics.

I'm interested in Artificial Intelligence, specifically Evolutionary Algorithms, Neural Networks and Fuzzy Logic and applying them in 3D simulations.

So which major I should pursue?

Any comments would be greatly appreciative?

a masters in pure mathematics? that's more topology, geometry, algebra, etc.

how about a masters in applied mathematics? that sounds more like your thing.

Thanks! I gotcha!
