Young's modulus value of Ferrous Tungsten

Click For Summary

Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the determination of Young's modulus for Ferrous Tungsten (FeW), exploring whether it can be derived from the Young's modulus values of its constituent materials, Ferrous and Tungsten. The conversation includes inquiries about measurement methods and resources for obtaining this information.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Technical explanation
  • Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant questions if Young's modulus for Ferrous Tungsten can be derived from the values for Ferrous and Tungsten, suggesting a need for clarification on the properties of "Ferrous."
  • Another participant asserts that it is not possible to derive Young's modulus in this way and emphasizes the need for direct measurement or reference materials.
  • A participant highlights the ambiguity in the term "Ferrous," indicating that it is not a specific material and thus complicates the discussion of its properties.
  • There are repeated inquiries about measuring the stress value of FeW thin films, indicating a specific application interest.
  • Some participants mention the existence of resources or websites that may provide combined Young's modulus values, but express difficulty in finding specific data for FeW.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally do not agree on the feasibility of deriving Young's modulus for Ferrous Tungsten from its components, with some asserting it is not possible while others seek clarification on the definitions and measurement methods.

Contextual Notes

The discussion includes limitations regarding the definition of "Ferrous" and the availability of specific material property data, which remain unresolved.

How can I get Young's modulus value of Ferrous Tungsten? Is it possible to get it from Young's modulus value of Ferrous and Young's modulus value of Tungsten?

Short answer = no.

I understand there are different kinds of ferrous tungsten anyway.

You have to measure it or find someone who has.

Your college library will have a reference book on material properties that may help.
Try the engineering department, or companies who make stuff from it.

As a detail, "Ferrous" is not a material so it does not make sense to talk about its Young's modulus or any other property.

This question has been posted in the HW forums.

Actually I want to measure the stress value of FeW thin film. How can i get it?

Somebody says that Combining elements Young's modulus is available in the website. But I can't get it for FeW.

Same answer as before.

Well, you need to talk to 'somebody' or 'them' about this 'website'.
