SUMMARY

The discussion centers on calculating the distance a car travels while decelerating from a speed of 26.0 m/s to rest over a period of 4.50 seconds. It is established that to solve this problem accurately, one must assume constant deceleration. By applying the formula for distance traveled under constant acceleration, users can derive the distance using the initial speed and time of deceleration.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of kinematics, specifically equations of motion
  • Familiarity with the concept of constant acceleration
  • Basic algebra for manipulating equations
  • Knowledge of the formula for distance: d = vt + 0.5at²
NEXT STEPS
  • Study the equations of motion for constant acceleration
  • Learn how to derive acceleration from initial and final velocities
  • Explore practical applications of kinematics in real-world scenarios
  • Practice solving problems involving deceleration and distance calculation
USEFUL FOR

Students in physics, educators teaching kinematics, and anyone interested in understanding motion dynamics and distance calculations under constant acceleration.

A car slows down from a speed of 26.0 m/s to rest in 4.50 s. How far did it travel in that time?
Iam not sure how to solve this

You can't answer that question without knowing how the car slows down, unless you happen to know it is deacceleration at a constant rate. In that case, you can calculate the rate of acceleration and apply the formula for distance traveled under constant acceleration.

Please do not post the same question in both "k-12" and "college"!
