Homework Help Overview

The discussion revolves around the process of graphing the integral of the function f(x) = x, focusing on understanding the implications of integrating this function and how it relates to graphical representation.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Conceptual clarification

Approaches and Questions Raised

  • Participants discuss the steps involved in graphing an integral, including the role of the constant of integration and the resulting family of parabolas that can be generated from different values of C.

Discussion Status

Some participants have provided insights into the nature of the integral and its graphical representation, noting that it results in a family of parabolas. However, there is no explicit consensus on the complete process or methodology for graphing.

Contextual Notes

There is an emphasis on understanding the concept of integration and its graphical implications, but the discussion does not provide specific methods or detailed steps for graphing.

How would you graph the integral of [tex]f(x) = x[/tex]? What is the process to graph an integral?

Thanks

Do you mean to graph this "beauty":
[tex]\int x \ dx =\frac{x^{2}}{2}+C[/tex]

It's a family of parabolas...

Daniel.

oh ok. thanks a lot

The way to "graph an integral" is to first find the integral (which will involve a "constant of integration") and then integrate! Since you will have a different function for every value of C, you will, as dextercioby said, a "family" of graphs.
