Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around the claim that a duck's quack does not echo, exploring the validity of this assertion and seeking evidence or proof regarding the nature of sound waves produced by ducks. The scope includes conceptual exploration and anecdotal evidence from participants.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant recalls a previous discussion about whether a duck's quack echoes, expressing skepticism about the claim that it does not.
  • Another participant references a prior thread where it was suggested that ducks' quacks do echo, indicating that there may be evidence to support this view.
  • There is a mention of anecdotal beliefs from college peers regarding the peculiar nature of duck quacks and sound waves.
  • A participant expresses a lack of time to explore all threads on the forum, indicating a desire for more accessible information.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants do not reach a consensus; there are competing views regarding whether a duck's quack echoes, with some suggesting it does and others questioning the claim.

Contextual Notes

The discussion includes references to previous threads and anecdotal beliefs, but lacks empirical evidence or detailed explanations regarding the sound properties of duck quacks.

Dont suppose anyone here remembers the God damned ducks thread from the previous physicsforums, if they do they will remember that i asked this question assuming i knew the answer but without being able to confirm it. So hear we go again and let's see if anyone has any proof.

I read once on the internet that a ducks quack doesn't Echo, some of the people i knew at college beleived this and said that it had to be something odd about the soundwaves that are the ducks quack.

This is quite amusing but proove my assumption, that it has too echo because its a soundwave correct.

Physics news on Phys.org
I'm surprised you didn't see the article Ivan Seeking started a thread about, roughly two months ago. Apparently someone proved they do echo. If I recall the thread was titled: "Quack, quack, quack." Something like that.
