Discussion Overview

The discussion centers around recommendations for computer programs that can simulate physical objects, with a focus on the capabilities and features of various software options. Participants explore different engines and tools, considering aspects like graphics quality and usability.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant asks for recommendations for computer programs capable of simulating physical objects.
  • Another participant suggests a website with mechanics simulations that allows parameter manipulation.
  • Some participants mention specific physics engines, such as the ODE physics engine and the Newton physics engine, noting their programming languages.
  • Caligari trueSpace versions are highlighted for their physical simulation capabilities, along with MSC.visualNastran 4D 2004 as a professional-level simulator.
  • There is a discussion about the importance of graphics quality, with one participant expressing a desire for good graphics.
  • Another participant humorously critiques Java while suggesting that any physics engine can be integrated with a graphics engine.
  • A participant directs others to check out Caligari's graphics on their website.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express a range of opinions about different software options and their features, indicating that multiple competing views remain regarding the best tools for simulating physical objects.

Contextual Notes

Some responses may depend on specific definitions of "physical objects" and the intended use of the simulations, which are not fully clarified in the discussion.

Does anyone know a good computer program which you can simulate physical objects with it?

Thanks for your reply.

"Physical objects" is a bit broad. Here's a website that has some neat mechanics simulations, and it allows you to play with the parameters:

www.myphysicslab.com

ODE physics engine (Open dynamics) or
Newton physics engine .
both written in C/C++

Caligari trueSpace 5.2 and 6.6 both have physical simulation engines.
Also, I hear that MSC.visualNastran 4D 2004 is some type of Pro-Level engineering simulator.

look i want good graphics. how's java??

java is horrible. hehe j/k
you can add any physics engine ontop of a graphics engine.
