SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the feasibility of creating an infrared device to measure the distance of objects, specifically for assisting physically disabled individuals. The student seeks guidance on constructing such a device for a science fair project. A suggestion is made to consider a commercially available laser measuring device, which can be purchased for approximately $20 at Home Depot, as a practical alternative to building a custom solution.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of infrared technology principles
  • Basic knowledge of laser measuring devices
  • Familiarity with electronics and circuit design
  • Experience with project development for science fairs
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the specifications and functionality of laser measuring devices
  • Explore infrared sensor technology and its applications
  • Learn about circuit design for distance measurement devices
  • Investigate project ideas that integrate infrared technology for accessibility
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for high school students, educators, and inventors interested in developing assistive technology using infrared systems, as well as those looking to enhance their science fair projects with practical applications of technology.

i am a student in my high skool and i was planning of making a apparatus for my science fair which involves infrared technology for the physically disabled. I wanted to know whether it is possible me to make a infrared device to calculate distance of a body from the origin of infrared waves. i need guidence in how i will be able to make such a device. i would be even delighted if u could provide me with latest information on infrared technology.
