Graduate Integrating the Unsolvable: $\int x^xdx$
My understanding of this article is that the Risch algorithm is a decision procedure used to determine the function of an indefinite integral. I don't gather that there actually is an algorithm that proves it CANNOT be integrated in terms of elementary functions. If there is, can someone post it? -

Graduate Integrating the Unsolvable: $\int x^xdx$
\int x^xdx After calculus today, our professor casually asked us to integrate the above problem. Most of us stated DNE (does not exist), or possibly x+1 / x+1 . He stated that both of these solutions were incorrect and than challenged us to write a paper on the subject which seemed... -

Determining Thevenin Equiv. Circuit & R Load for Max Power Transfer
okay, I understand what you did, but I do not understand why you ignored the R1 value? Also, do you know how to input RLOAD into multisim? thanks, Air- airkapp

How to Determine Thevenin Equivalent and Max Power Transfer Load Resistance?
I'm trying to determine the Thevenin equivalent circuit for the attached circuit. Also, the value of the load resistance R load for maximum power transfer. I'm not to sure how exactly the Thevenin theorem operates but I simply added my resistor in series and parallel (where appropriate). I...- airkapp

Graduate Super Free Will: Metaprogramming and Quantum Indeterminism
Free will is the ability of an agent to anticipate alternate possible outcomes dependent on alternate possible courses of action and to choose which course of action to follow and in so doing to behave in a manner such that the agent’s choice appears, both to itself and to an outside observer...- airkapp

Graduate Super Free Will: Metaprogramming and Quantum Indeterminism
Thanks MF, he seems to be advocating degrees of free will; as mankind evolves (technologically) those degrees become greater. I believe he accepts that everything is "ontically determined". So he is not arguing for absolute free will. However, I don't think I'm qualified to argue this, I'll...- airkapp

Graduate Super Free Will: Metaprogramming and Quantum Indeterminism
It would seem to me the author is not using the UP necessarily. I probably shouldn't of mentioned it because you are correct in saying that the universe is "NOTnecessarily ontically indeterministic". However, the article seems to be suggesting since we don't know for sure if the conscious...- airkapp

Graduate Super Free Will: Metaprogramming and Quantum Indeterminism
I think most people agree that the UP falsifies classic determinism, but what about free will? I ran into this site a few weeks ago and wonder what your thoughts might be on it? http://www.futurehi.net/archives/000120.html Super Free Will: Metaprogramming and Quantum Indeterminism Art...- airkapp

Graduate Calculating the Lifetime of J/ψ Meson Using the Uncertainty Principle
thanks Daniel, sorry to bother you again but do you think you can detail that out for me a little more..I think I'm having a little trouble following the steps of proportion to get 7\cdot 10^{-21}s thanks- airkapp

Graduate Calculating the Lifetime of J/ψ Meson Using the Uncertainty Principle
I'm just being introduced to particle physics and wondering if I'm going about this correct..can someone help me? thanks The measured width of the J/ψ meson is 88 keV. Estimate its lifetime. Lifetime (s) of J/ψ meson is 8E-21 s Using uncertainty principle: ΔE = h/2πΔt isolate for delta...- airkapp

Graduate Energy released in fission reaction
Can someone help me on this problem? Here's my work :) Calculate the energy released in the fission reaction: n + 235/92U-> Sr-88 + Xe-136 + 12n Use appendix D, assume the initial KE of the neutron is very small It can be seen that when the compound nucleus splits, it breaks into...- airkapp

Transitional state of electrons.
This is how I went about it but I am unsure if it is correct.. An n=3 to n=1 transition from an electron trapped in a rigid box produces a 240 nm photon. What is the width of the box? λ = hc / E: E = hc / λ E = (1.06E-34 J*s * 3E8m/s) / 240nm = 1.33E-19 J E = h2 / 8mL2...- airkapp
