Pressure not matching at same height in a U-tube

Wow, thanks alot. I got the answer by the diagram you indicated here :)

Pressure not matching at same height in a U-tube

Precisely, I want to know what are we observing wrong when we concentrate on the dashed line XY. When we are showing both the pressures on either side on the line are equal, where are we wrong? I want to know where this assumption is going wrong? Because we know, both the heights won't be equal.

Pressure not matching at same height in a U-tube

It's an exercise to spot what's wrong.

Pressure not matching at same height in a U-tube

Can we please look at the following attached file image? It shows a utube filled with a little water and the rest is oil. Thus, the height of oil in one arm will be more than the height of water in the other. When we compare the pressure at the height of the surface of water with that...

I What causes retrograde rotation in planets and moons?

When I googled it, I wasn't satisfied with the answers from various sites...some sites like universetoday.com gave me a glimpse but it was totally theoretical and based on assumption. Also I would like to know why some planets have retrograde rotation; what might have caused them to and why do...

Admissions Academic guidance after graduation with honours (India)

Hello, I am currently in 2nd year of my 3 year course B.Sc. honours (India) course in physics. I was looking forward to studying the university which is apt for me in masters...what are my options of studying abroad like UK or other universities good for physics? Also I would like to know about...

Classical Possible textbook for Classical Mechanics

I wouldn't prefer much mathematical, as I'm not a pro in that. Like, I prefer Griffith to r.Shankar in quantum mechanics..so you see...

If Goldstein seems tough for introductory, then what book should I begin with?

Quantum Starting books for Quantum Mechanics

Hello I'm an undergrad. Can anyone suggest me books, articles, lectures for studying quantum mechanics as a fresh starter? I tried r. Shankar but it only mathematical to me, couldn't get the physical significance. On the other hand, Griffith got way deep in concepts without sufficient examples...

Projectile Motion - Skier & Ramp

Thanks for the glitch. Ok, suppose 'd' is the hypotenuse of an isosceles triangle of angle 45 degree and its equal sides=dcos45 or (dsin45 whatever). Then time taken for the skii jumper to cover 'd' is t=(2xh/g)½ = (2xdcos45/g)½. Now, R=dsin45=u x t= (u^2 x 2 x dcos45/g)½ solving out...

Projectile Motion - Skier & Ramp

With respect to the slope which is angled at 45 dgree, the ski jumper is jumping off the ramp with a velocity u=(119x5/18)m/s at angle of 45 degree! Thus, the horizontal range he covers on the slope, d=(u^2xsin(2θ)/g). Correct me if I am wrong,or you can ask for further doubts or queries.

Deciding My Career Goal After High School

Hi everyone, Ive loved physics since high school and never viewed it from the point of a subject to study, but rather like a hobby. However, now after high school, i need to plan out my career and set a specific goal of where I want to see myself after 10 years down the line. I am from India, and...

Careers in physics other than teaching or research

Thanks for looking into the matter, but can you help me as to what further studies do i have to do to enter in the industry sector? Or is BS in physics just enough?

Careers in physics other than teaching or research

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is researching in physics equivalent to a job? Can you explain why do you use the term 'work in physics'? Because I find Ph.D. as more of another educational degree that i need to study to achieve, rather than thinking of it as a job.
