Circuit analysis in series vs. parallel
awesome, thanks for the help... I didn't know you could combine junction points like that... I was trying to make sense of it by manipulating the equations for kirchhoff's rules...- daviddee305

Circuit analysis in series vs. parallel
I don't know if 'nodes' are the same thing as 'junction points', but I think you're telling me to redraw the circuit like this... is this correct?- daviddee305

Circuit analysis in series vs. parallel
I need to determine whether the resistors on this circuit are in series or in parallel. Here's my reasoning... They are not in series because the current going through each resistor is not equal: I1 \neq I4 \neq I5 * *This is assuming I've assigned current properly which I'm not sure I have...- daviddee305

Microeconomics questions (elasticity)
I took Micro last semester and when we learned elasticity it was never a negative value except for 'income' and 'cross' elasticity. Elasticity of supply & demand is a ratio to measure responsiveness, and it was always positive. So, if you're professor is using another text that teaches negatives...- daviddee305

Microeconomics questions (elasticity)
Price Elasticity is expressed as: (Change in % of Quantity Demanded / Change in % of Price) To determine the change in % of QD, you use [$1/($21/2) = ~ 9.5%]. So a change in the price of 9.5% led to a change in consumer demand of 10% (10/9.5 = 1.05) 1.05 tells you whether or not demand is...- daviddee305

Oxidation Numbers of Mn: KMnO4, LiMnO2, MnO2, K2MnCl, & Mn2O7
to determine the oxidation numbers you need to rewrite the compound using the charge of the atoms. For (a), the charge of K is +1, because K is in an Alkali metal and all Alkali metals are plus 1. The charge of O is -2 -- and you have 4 oxygens. The compound KMnO4 has no charge. So... KMnO4 =...- daviddee305

What Went Wrong in Calculating the Density of Na Metal?
Each corner atom is shared by 8 unit cells, so only (1/8)th of each atom belongs to the body-centered cubic. Plus the one in the middle. Thank you. That was a great follow-up question, exactly what I needed to see through these confusing diagrams in my text.- daviddee305

What Went Wrong in Calculating the Density of Na Metal?
1. Calculate the density of Na metal. The length of the body-centered cubic unit cell is 4.24 Å.2. Attempted solution: [4 Na Atoms/unit cell] * [1 mol Na atoms/(6.022*10^23 atoms)] * [22.99g Na/1 mol Na] = 1.527 * 10-22 g/unit cell (4.24 Å)3 = 7.6225 * 10-23 cm3/unit cell[1.527 * 10-22 g/unit...- daviddee305

Integration By Parts: Need help with a step
Integration By Parts: Need help with a step... Evaluate the integral: \int ln(2x + 1)dx I worked it out up until: Xln(2x + 1) - \int 2x/(2x + 1) dx Then the next step throws me off. I attached a scan from the solutions manual and circled the part that confused me. Could somebody...- daviddee305

Is Philosophy a need in Biology?
that's a horrible analogy... you seem to be confusing philosophy with theology... op: if you're going to teach biology, then philosophy is definitely relevant: the mind/body problem, questioning what is knowledge, ethics/relativism/morality... these are all issues that a science teacher...- daviddee305

How much research is necessary to get into a good graduate program?
maybe i phrased my question wrong...is it normal for a student to be accepted into a graduate program with two semesters of research? or is that invariably not enough?- daviddee305

How much research is necessary to get into a good graduate program?
I'm a biochemistry & molecular biology major... My university requires two semesters of research (one during the summer) to graduate with departmental honors. You also have to present your results/conclusions and have your presentation approved by faculty. Are these two semesters enough to...- daviddee305
