Biocompatible Non-Degradable Polymers
Does anyone know of any polymers that are compatible/approved for use inside the body that don't degrade? I can find lots of information of biodegradable polymers, but my project involves ones that don't degrade, or if they do - very little. Thanks!- EpiGen

How can I reduce friction in my sliding elevator design?
I am a third year chemical engineering student and don't have much experience in the mechanical stream so I was hoping someone here could help me. At the moment I have an apparatus that consists of a sheet of metal with four syringes sticking through (metal sheet is horizontal, syringes are...- EpiGen

Tensile Strength and Tensile Strain
The project I am working on is to find a bioabsorbable copolymer that we can use to repair acetabular labrum tears (acetabular labrum is what forms the seal around your hip joints, and keeps synovial fluid inside.) When someone tears their acetabular labrum they often describe a 'clicking' in...- EpiGen

Tensile Strength and Tensile Strain
So if I know the strain, could I just divide the modulus by the value and the result would be stress?- EpiGen

Tensile Strength and Tensile Strain
Are these two things the same? I'm looking at bioabsorbable copolymers with similar properties to the human acetabular labrum, but I can only find tensile strength values for the copolymers and tensile stress at break for the labrum. I've looked at the definitions of each it sounds like the...- EpiGen

Undergrad Solving for the mass using Parametric Equations (Density Forumula)
Hey, I have a calculus 3 test coming up that involves calculating the mass of an object using a density function. I know how to use the double integral form for x-y equations, but the practice test my professor gave me has a question using parametric equations and I don't know how to... -

Undergrad Calculating electric fields through integration
Can anyone find a website that shows you how to calculate the electric field by integration for a evenly distributed disk and a hollow ring? I tried figuring it out myself but all the websites I found skipped many steps on the math. Thanks!- EpiGen

Medical Repairing/Replacing a Human Cochlea
When I was 2 years old I contracted pneumococcal menengitis and it destroyed many of the hair cells in my cochlea - resulting in profound deafness. I wear a cochlear implant at the moment but I was wondering: When will it be possible grow human hairs cells with stem cells, or when will it be...- EpiGen

Measuring Indium Concentrations
I am undergoing a research term at my university working with photovoltaics. We are required to measure the concentration of Indium after doing copper etching processes with CIGS films. We've considered absorption spectroscopy but it will be weeks until we have the parts necessary to use this...- EpiGen

What Factors Contribute to Aging and Death in the Human Body?
Does anybody know what mechanisms in the human body contribute to the wear and tear that comes with aging, and eventually lead to death? I know that DNA telomers shortening is one. What are some others? Maybe the accumulation of DNA mutations throughout a lifetime? Thanks!- EpiGen

Telomerase Breakdown: How Does the Body Break It Down?
So I've finished my university's genetics class and we talked about how telomerase is present in a human early in life but then it disappears. Does anyone here how exactly the body breaks it down? Is there a specific chemical released throughout the body that causes it to degrade?- EpiGen
