I A thought about visualizing space-time
I'm having difficulty getting my head around space-time, especially since it is not visible. I was wondering if it could be visualized as the universe being a liquid, all the objects in the universe displacing this liquid, and gravity being the pressure of the displaced liquid pushing back...- InquiringMind

I Another Time Dilation Question
I'm confused about something about the Twin Paradox. To keep it simple, let's ignore acceleration and deceleration. Twin "A" heads for a point in space 5 light years away and returns at near the speed of light, while twin "B" remains on earth. Approximately 10 years passes for Twin "B" for...- InquiringMind

I How Does a Qubit Exist as Both 1 and 0 Simultaneously?
I think 10 more IQ points would help me understand quantum physics at the level I'd like. That said, I'd like to know more about Qbits. I've watched several videos about them, and they say that they can be 1 and 0 at the same time. Is that just an analogy to the polarization of the old...- InquiringMind

Effect of time dilation on Earth/space communication?
Let's say there is an audio oscillator on earth sending a 440 Hz audio tone over radio to a spacecraft. There is also an audio oscillator on the spacecraft sending a 440 Hz audio tone over radio to earth. Time is slower in the high gravity of earth than the weak gravity in space. Is the 440...- InquiringMind

I Time Dilation Paradox: Geosynchronous Satellites
Time moves faster when higher above the earth. Time move slower the faster you are moving. A geosynchronous satellite has to be very high to be geosynchronous so it's time should be fast, but it also has to be orbiting the earth extremely fast to keep up with a geosynchronous position, so it's...- InquiringMind

I Doppler Effect on Light: Constant Speed of Light Confusion
I just read that in a vacuum, all colors travel at the same speed, so I guess that is why there can be an observed color shift without a change in speed.- InquiringMind

I Doppler Effect on Light: Constant Speed of Light Confusion
If the speed of light in the vacuum of empty space is the same for all observers, how can there be a Doppler effect on light? Doesn't the shift of color/frequency indicate a change in speed? Sorry if I posted with the wrong prefix, I'm just a curious senior (as in old guy) :oldconfused:- InquiringMind

I Time Dilation & Aging: Why Do Astronauts Age More Slowly in Space?
I can't seem to get my head around this. It's my understanding that time moves slower in the heavy gravitation than it does in space. So why to I read that astronauts age move slowly in space, where time moves faster, than the would on earth? I would think if time is moving faster, they would...- InquiringMind

B Traffic Turbines - Free Energy or Cost Exchange?
I saw a video on FaceBook today that showed traffic turbines. They supposedly generate "free" energy from the traffic that passes by them causing them to spin. Just because I'm curious, I was wondering if this energy isn't really free, but is in exchange of a minuscule drag put on the passing...- InquiringMind

B Relative Time Effect on Orbital Comm: Satellite Freq & Audio/Video
Given that the time is relatively slower for a moving object that a stationary object, does the relative difference have an effect on satellite communications? For instance, if a geostationary satellite, which is traveling very fast to appear stationary on Earth (and therefore experiencing a...- InquiringMind

Is the Cheerios Effect Analogous to Gravity?
Is the warping of the fabric of space by masses, similar to the warping of the milk surface, that pulls those last few Cheerios together.- InquiringMind

Bullet Velocity Matching Gravity on a High Platform?
Actually, my orginal thought, which I didn't post, had to do with standing on the edge of a VERY high cliff, and throwing a ball straight down. At first the ball would travel faster than if you had just dropped it, but I wasn't sure if it would continue to travel faster than if dropped, or if...- InquiringMind

Bullet Velocity Matching Gravity on a High Platform?
oops! Sorry I used the wrong term. It's been a long time since I've been in school, and it was late when I posted :blushing:. I think I would have more correctly phrased the question if I'd asked - would the "velocity of the bullet" at some point match the "the rate of acceleration of...- InquiringMind

Bullet Velocity Matching Gravity on a High Platform?
Every once in a while, I wonder about something off the wall. Here's the latest: If you were on a hypothetical stationary platform, very high above the Earth (x number of miles), and you fired a gun downward, would the speed of the bullet eventually slow down to the velocity of gravity...- InquiringMind
