How do you guys read a textbook?
I am always trying to read textbooks (physics, in courses, or independently), and every time I end up in one of these situations: The book gets too technical for me to understand, or mentions something I do not know. The book goes on for too long and gets boring after the introductory chapters...- jamalkoiyess

Do you feel stuck in your research field?
Does any researcher/scholar/professor here ever feel stuck with the field they have chosen to pursue? Do you ever feel it's too late to switch or regret not choosing something else while studying?- jamalkoiyess

Programs Graduate Programs with late application deadlines
I am aware of how late I am and as mentioned I was overconfident with my applications. I will now focus on Spring admissions I guess since as you stated late deadlines mean that teams were already filled. I know that our universities are bad, but I am not looking for top schools anymore, just...- jamalkoiyess

Programs Graduate Programs with late application deadlines
Hello all, I did the classic mistake of overestimating my application and submitting only to some high profile universities (all above 150 on the QS physics [i know no the best indicator but I used it]). I got rejected from nearly all and I can't be hopeful that the rest won't follow similarly...- jamalkoiyess

Other Exercise book between underg and grad physics
I have Arfken's book, will probably use it too. But isn't Wheeler's book the famous 1200 page tome on all things gravity? My intent was more of a refinement of my general skills in all physics sides rather than a deep dive into one. The book you mentioned by Moiseiwytsch was really spot on what...- jamalkoiyess

Other Exercise book between underg and grad physics
Hated it enough when I did it, I know that it still is useful but the sheer disgust stops me Upon checking it out it really seemed more of a physics book than applied math. Weird choice of title, but really up my alley. Thanks!- jamalkoiyess

Other Exercise book between underg and grad physics
Hello, I am in my last year of undergrad and wanted a good book of diverse exercises to serve both as a memory refresher on my physics and as a fun pass time for this summer. Altho my goal is something that can span most of undergrad physics, I am not looking for anything easy and would enjoy...- jamalkoiyess

How do you keep yourself from procrastinating when working on a PC
procrastination might be a bad term, but whenever I try to do some computational homework or any kind of productive computer usage, I find myself hours later just browsing some random stuff or binging youtube. It's always tempting especially when working on a browser to just open a tab and...- jamalkoiyess

Studying How to fortify my physics knowledge
I am currently a senior undergraduate majoring in both math and physics. This summer will be my only chance for a long vacation in three years since it is the only time that I am taking no courses. In this period of approx. three months I want to fortify my knowledge in physics and maybe math...- jamalkoiyess

Studying How to study an advanced physics textbook effectively?
Hello PF, This by no means the first time I inquire about the topic. I have read a lot on how to study from textbooks and I have practiced all methods and read extensively. Yet, I have never felt that I truly accomplished my purpose and mastered the given material. The thing is that while...- jamalkoiyess

Undergrad Godel's unprovable statement - Numberfile
Hello PF, I was watching this video and around 8:00 the speaker says that the statement that cannot be proven by the axioms is supposed first as false which would make it provable by the axioms, "which would make it true since it was proven". However, the proof can be a proof that the...- jamalkoiyess

MATLAB Hardware advice for a MATLAB oriented PC build
Hello PF, I am considering some options in my upcoming PC build and want to choose the one that performed best in MATLAB. What I mostly do is velocimetry with a big amount of points, image processing, statistical analysis. My options are between 2 CPUs: AMD Ryzen 2700 - for the 8 physical...- jamalkoiyess
