Industrial revolution before the Iron Age?
It wasn't the alcohol that made it safe, but that you had to boil the water to make beer killing harmful bacteria that made it safe.- Jobrag

Turbine Q: Feeding Air or Steam?
A turbine extracts energy from its working fluid, you need to put energy into the working fluid, a boiler is a fairly simple way to putt energy into water. If you wanted to use air as your working fluid you'd have to compress it with machines driven by another machine. Imagine an air compressor...- Jobrag

Pressure differential through orifice plate
Get a copy of ASME PTC 19.5. The position of your plate in a divergent convergent nozzle looks dodgy, in general for flow measurement you're looking for 10 straight diameters upstream and five downstream, it looks to me that in the setup you have would produce turbulent flow.- Jobrag

Engineering Mechanical, Civil, or Nuclear Engineering?
If you go for mechanical engineering at some stage you're going to get covered in hot dirty oil, civil you'll be out in all weathers but will only remember wet and windy, nuclear make a bad mistake and your name will go down in history in a bad way.- Jobrag

Other Gas Turbine Tuning and Control Job - How & Where
From what you've told us I would guess that they're looking for someone to write software for turbine control systems. This might fall into two categories, sequencer or fuel control. Sequencer control tends to be more project specific depending on the application and client requirements, a...- Jobrag

Practical knowledges in engineering
Theoretical knowledge is great if you can take a problem back to first principles and come up with a practical solution. On the other hand I've known "practical men" who understand solutions because they've seen, or heard of, a similar problem before. The best graduate trainees are the ones who...- Jobrag
