What is the speed of M2 at t=1.75 s in a system of three blocks and two pulleys?
wait, how are the two tensions different though? I know that FM1 = Tension - M1*g = M1a is correct, so is tension for Fm3 going to be (m1+m2)a?- marco101

What is the speed of M2 at t=1.75 s in a system of three blocks and two pulleys?
Homework Statement three blocks are relased at t=0 from the position shown in the figure. Assume that there is no friction between the table and M2, and that the two pulleys are massless and frictionless. The masses are: M1 = 3.0 kg, M2 = 9.0 kg, M3 = 5.0 kg. M2 is the middle block...- marco101

Auxiliary Eqns with Complex Roots
since there are double roots, should i make changes to the general solution form? everything cancels out to be zero because y'' = -9cos3t -9sin3t and y = 9cos3t + 9sin3t because it was multiplied by 9 in the original equation.- marco101

Auxiliary Eqns with Complex Roots
Homework Statement solve the initial value problem y''+9y = 0, y(0) = 1, y'(0) = 1 Homework Equations gen solution form is y(t) = C1e^At*(cosBt) + C2e^At*(sinBt) where A is the real number and B is the imaginary number The Attempt at a Solution i just wanted to check if I am doing...- marco101

Solve Kinematics Problem: 2 Stones Meeting at Height
Is my 2nd equation correct then? Im thinking if it's 2 seconds later, then the equation to the first stone is d = 24.5 (t+2) + .5(9.8)(t+2)^2 while the 2nd stone stays the same, d + 49 = 24.5t +.5(9.8)t^2 and then set the two equal to each otehr?- marco101

Solve Kinematics Problem: 2 Stones Meeting at Height
Homework Statement You throw a stone straight up with initial V of 24.5m/s and 2.0 s later you throw a second stone straight up with the same initial velocity. The first stone going down will meet the second stone going up. At what height above the point of release do the two stones meet...- marco101

Why Is the Average Speed Not Simply the Arithmetic Mean of Two Speeds?
I just wanted to know how to find average speed without knowing the distance. I know average speed is defined as total distance / change in time but what would you do a person travels to a friend's house and when he is halfway there, he figures out that he has been averaging 30 mph. He drives...- marco101
