What's so great about A Space Odyssey ?

I guess I never thought about 2001 that way but it seems a reasonable interpretation.

What's so great about A Space Odyssey ?

Other than they are both about alien contact, I don't see how the plots are the same, even basically. I agree it is creepier, though.

Centripetal Forces and the Bucket in a Circle

Well, presumably when the bucket hits the ground the water will not stay in the bucket.

Finding Tension in a Massless String on an Inclined Plane

How can the spring balance give a value greater than the weight of the block? Maybe show your FBD and your calcs.

High School Conservation of Energy -- does it ever not apply?

I'm not sure but he may have been alluding to dark energy causing the acceleration of the expansion of space. However, my layman's understanding is that this is not a violation of the conservation law.

High School Conservation of Energy -- does it ever not apply?

Yeah, I think you are wrong on that. The red shift comes from the relative speed of the observed light source. Light does not lose energy as it travels.

High School Move Mass in Space: How Much Pull?

I'm not sure you really mean 1g here since this is an acceleration.

High School Conservation of Energy -- does it ever not apply?

No one has discovered such a closed system.

M2 Point C Moment Calculation: Why is it Not the Same as Book?

Still too small. Just blow up the diagram.

High School Conservation of Energy -- does it ever not apply?

When the system is not closed so that energy can be added or subtracted.

The inclined plane: Movement & Coefficients of Friction

Maybe you can start by drawing yourself a free body diagram of each condition. You should then be able to apply your kinematic formulae to solve.

"A woman throws a ball at a vertical wall...." Proj. Motion

No, I want you to put together the formula with the right inputs after the ball hits the wall at point 1.

"A woman throws a ball at a vertical wall...." Proj. Motion

OK, I guess it might be easier for you to break the problem into two parts. Why don't we call the point where the ball hits the wall "1". Can you put your formula together at point 1?

"A woman throws a ball at a vertical wall...." Proj. Motion

I assume the question is the time it takes to hit the ground after leaving the wall. I wouldn't say they are independent exactly but you are on the right track with your formula. I would double check your signs and figure out what v0 is.
