Astro, Eventhough there are 7 IITs they are like branches of a single university. Selection to all IITs is through a Joint Exam. So in India,when we say IIT it means all 7 as a whole.

My professor has these qualification along with CPhys. What does this mean, I found CPhys on google but had no luck with FInstP.

Once you have taken a mechanics course at school and you read it ,It is great. But if you want to self study or something and you are starting with a clean slate,Then FLOP may not be a good idea.
