Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the challenges and ideas for creating a two-legged walking robot for an Intel competition, with a focus on the intersection of physics and electrical engineering. Participants explore the complexity of building such a robot and consider alternative project ideas.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory, Technical explanation, Debate/contested

Main Points Raised

  • One participant expresses concern that a two-legged walking robot may not be challenging enough for a competition.
  • Another participant counters that creating a stable walking robot is incredibly challenging, emphasizing the complexity involved.
  • A question is raised about the level of advancement required for the contest and what types of projects were successful in previous years.
  • It is noted that a robot that can walk quickly and maintain stability is difficult to construct, and adding functionalities with microcontrollers could enhance the project.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants generally agree on the complexity of building a stable two-legged walking robot, but there is uncertainty regarding the contest's level of advancement and the expectations for project difficulty.

Contextual Notes

Participants have not defined specific criteria for what constitutes a challenging project, and there are unresolved questions about the competition's requirements and past winners.

I am thinking of participating in Intel this year. I was thinking of making a two-legged walking robot but I don't think it is going to seem challenging enough to get me in the finals. Does anybody have any other ideas?

My main interest is in physics and electrical engineering.

Believe it or not but a stable robot which walks with its two legs is incredibly challenging to make.

Is this a very advanced contest? What kind of things won last year? As poolwin said, a stable walking robot is incredibly complex... unless this competition is for advanced engineering things...

A robot on two legs which actually stands tall and walks with some speed is incredibly difficult to build.
If you had that robot do some different things, with the help of some good microcontrollers and all(AVR)...and be fast, standing on two legs. It would be amazing.
