Use of subsurface foam injection on covered IFR tank

According to NFPA 11, subsurface foam injection can't be used on IFR tanks with fixed/covered roof. However, this has been done for a long time by various companies and there doesn't seem to be any issues with that. Can anyone give their opinion based on knowledge/experience why this should not...

    Understanding Bend Categorization

Okay, I get what you meant. For instance, I'm using 3D elbows (in the general context), so how do I interpret it in terms of the D/d ratio?

    Understanding Bend Categorization

Please refer to the link below, section 1.3.4.2. I'm quite confused about the bend geometry here as compared to the regular 1.5D and 3D ratio...

    Understanding Bend Categorization

Alright, I understand about the 1.5D and 3D definition. How about the D/d ratio?

Calculate pressure drop in dense phase pneumatic conveying

I've came across many references for pressure drop calculations for dilute phase pneumatic conveying, but I've yet to encounter any for dense phase. Anyone has any idea how do i calculate that? Thank you

    Understanding Bend Categorization

I'm quite confused on how bends are categorised. Some would refer it to 1.5D or 3D bends for instance, while some will use the ratio of the bend diameter (D) to pipe bore (d). I somewhat understand the two separately, but couldn't go about how to convert between the two. Can someone help me...

Pneumatic Conveying: Calculating Flow Rate of Cement

I have a question on pneumatic conveying. For a certain material such as cement, given that I already pipelines designed at certain dimensions (say 6"). Available air pressure is approximately 10 bar g. If the cement needs to be transferred from a tank to a vessel, how do I go about calculating...

Dangers of Methanol Exposure: Vessel Rupture Risks

For a vessel containing liquid methanol (95%) and other substances (methanol takes up about 40 wt%), which operates at 4.5 bar and 75C, what would happen if the vessel ruptures? SInce it's at a relatively high pressure, the methanol should still remain as liquid and hence no explosion? What kind...

    Ratio control for multiple streams

Alright, thanks for the suggestion. Will I need two FT on my primary stream or would 1 be sufficient?

    Ratio control for multiple streams

So I should consider doing 2 closed control loops instead? In that case, for each control loop, I will have a FT, followed by FC, which is connected to the ratio station and a control valve on the stream. Then another FT after the control valve to send the signal back to FC? Does it sound right?

    Ratio control for multiple streams

My plan was to put a control valve on stream 1 and 3, which are connected to a ratio station each. Each ratio station is connected to the FT on stream 2. Does that make sense?

    Ratio control for multiple streams

Can one flow transmitter be connected to two flow controllers? What I'm thinking is that i have a flow transmitter on second stream, then one flow controller each on first and third stream connected to the FT on second stream. Does it work that way? Or do I need to have separate flow...

Material of construction for reactor (SS 304 or SS 316)

Yeah I went through the corrosion handbook for sulphuric acid, but since it's only in a very small amount, I don't think it'll affect much. My concern is on methanol, but I couldn't find much info on corrosion for methanol at high concentration and temperature.

Material of construction for reactor (SS 304 or SS 316)

Would SS304 or SS316 be a better choice for a reactor containing 200 kg/hr sulphuric acid (97%), 2000 kg/hr methanol (98%) and 3500 kg/hr free fatty acids mixture? My initial choice was SS304 since the sulphuric acid amount was little, but upon reading more on methanol, I'm considering about 316...
