Zz, Why ask rhetorical questions? Why ask about philosophy and then say mathematics?
Laughlin talks about the middle way as Anderson talks about emergence in solid state physics. Their concepts of emergence are consistent with the above with the exception of "More is Different". Higher level...
I’ve not been active on PF for quite a long time but appreciate the thoughts on the Insight article. Yes, the term “separability” has different meanings depending on the topic. The OP was intended as a philosophy of science topic in which the term means some phenomenon exhibits locality. Healey...
Thanks for the feedback BillTre, Ygggdrasil. I was under the impression neurogenesis was fairly well established now but it sounds like it might still be contentious. My understanding is that most cells in the body (all but brain neurons?) replace themselves every so often, depending on the organ.
Hi all... I'm working on a paper and would like to reference an authoritative article that reviews or presents breakthrough data showing neurogenesis occurs in the human brain (not just animals) and perhaps also the relationship between neurogenesis and plasticity. I found a few articles that...
I don't know where this guy got his info but it appears to jive with what I've seen published from SpaceX, plus the explanation and conclusion reached seems believable.
Hi Jim. Do you know if NMN in vegetables gets broken down at all with cooking?

Thanks guys, that got it. I had to uninstall and it's working well now. Once it was uninstalled, it came right back up after the restart.
Thanks again. :)
Thanks guys. I tried the device updates and verified the network discovery thing... still no luck. If I go into device manager and look for Bluetooth, it shows a subcategory, " Intel (R) Wireless Bluetooth(R)" . If I right click and hit update drivers, it tells me they are up to date.
Should I...
I have a new Dell laptop:

It came with Windows 8.1 and I put Windows 10 on.
Problem I'm having is with the Bluetooth. The Bluetooth doesn't seem to be able to locate things such as my headphones or wireless speaker. I've looked...
Whether or not a computer can have a subjective experience has been debated for a very long time. There are good arguments on both sides of the issue but because there are so many logical dilemmas created by computationalism, there is no unanimous agreement. Going into those issues is outside...
Hi Graeme,
Your description of the easy and hard problems of consciousness are almost correct.
The quote from Pythagorean is correct, abeit brief and not meant to be a comprehensive description of the hard problem or phenomenal consciousness.
Not exactly… We should use the definitions provided...
