Economic physical methods for surface treatment of plastics

"economic physical methods" for surface treatment of plastics I am a material science student, working on a plastic based composite (reprocessed polyethylene solid form, mixed with cement). Initially, the mechanical strength of composite was lesser, probably because of the poor bond...

Neutron Absortion cross section for an element

Thanks a lot Mr. QuantumPion and Mr. cmb, this discussion forum is a nice learning process for me. However, it takes me a little more time to understand this c/s fully, but soon i wll come up with it., and if there are any difficulties i wl be happy to ask u again.. thanks PF.. - Santhosh...

Neutron Absortion cross section for an element

Ya it contains elastic scattering c/s part, but not the absorption part. May be we will get it by deducting elastic scatt c/s, and other c/s in total c/s i guess. Thank you for ur reply Mr Mathman.

Neutron Absortion cross section for an element

I recently saw the Evaluated Nuclear Data File provided by Brookhaven national lab., where in i saw the plot of "Neutron Energy Vs cross section (total)" for different elements. http://www.nndc.bnl.gov/sigma/index.jsp?as=1&lib=endfb7.0&nsub=10 Now what i am interested in is, can we derive or...

Elastic scattering of neutrons with hydrogen

Thank you Mr. Astronuc, discussion with you was great and has cleared lot of my doubts. - Regards Santhosh Malkapur (sm.malkapur)

Elastic scattering of neutrons with hydrogen

do protons also ionise atoms..? Thank you for ur quick reply Mr. Astronuc. Here i did not understand the following part of ur reply " In the case of a proton (nucleus of a hydrogen atom), it would simple travel and ionize the atoms in the medium through which it travels". As i know the...

Elastic scattering of neutrons with hydrogen

I am new to nuclear engg., i want to know the phenomenon of elastic scattering of neutrons. Resources available in the net suggest that in materials containing atoms of low atomic mass(hydrogen), neutrons of all energies can lose a significant fraction of their energy in a single elastic...
