Recommend a Rigorous Calculus Book
I have an undergraduate degree in Mathematics from a Big 10 university. Right now I am looking for a Calculus text that would aid me in approaching philosophy and literature text. Mostly what I'm looking for is a combination of Rigor (strictness in definitions and such) and problems that...- Sorgen

Why Is the Wave Equation Dimensionally Incorrect?
Alright so I'm clueless. I've read the chapter and the concept of a one dimensional box is never mentioned before this problem. I'm thinking i have to integrate some stuff but i have no idea where to begin. Any help?- Sorgen

F(f(x)) when f(x) = absolute value of x-1
Yes, It would look like that. What it means is take the absolute value of x-1, and then subtract 1 from that quantity and take the absolute value of what you get from that. Just plug in integers for x and see what y ends up being to get the graph- Sorgen

How to electrically heat up glass really fast
Hey guys. What's a way that I could heat up glass to a temperature of about 200-600C without using combustion?- Sorgen

Calc II Integral Homework: Solve 1/(x^2sqrt(25-x^2))
bleh thanks (managed to miss that even with drawing a picture triangle). I looked at the steps in wolfram after I solved but didn't notice that our root substitutions were different. Thanks also Tom, and sorry about all the parentheses. I'm bad with latex. Next time I'll just scan in the sheet.- Sorgen

Calc II Integral Homework: Solve 1/(x^2sqrt(25-x^2))
Homework Statement http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=integrate+%281%2F%28%28x^2%29sqrt%2825-%28x^2%29%29%29The Attempt at a Solution Alright, so I attempted this integral and checked my answer on wolfram and my answer was the same except for a -sin(^-1)(x/5) tagging along in mine. I can't...- Sorgen

Is a Course Load of 3 Math and 1 Physics Class Doable?
I'm in physics 1 right now, and it's a lot easier than the ap mechanics portion, so I'm thinking that physics 2 wouldn't be a problem (i'd have the same professor). However, it may just be that they want to ease you into physics with the mechanics part. The reason I'm considering this...- Sorgen

Is a Course Load of 3 Math and 1 Physics Class Doable?
I know questions like this have been asked before, but my situation's a bit different so I was wondering how you guys think it would apply to me. I'm considering taking Physics II (e+m), calc 3, linear algebra, and a proof based course using reed's 'fundamental ideas of analysis'. This...- Sorgen

How To Prove it Inequality Proof
Oops yeah I multiply both sides by ab. If ab is negative then the statement doesn't contradict because we then get a<b, but didn't I state that by pointing out the contradiction of if ab is positive? If I modified that part to say: Suppose ab is a positive real number. Multiplying both...- Sorgen

How To Prove it Inequality Proof
Homework Statement Suppose that a and b are nonzero real numbers. Prove that if a<1/a<b<1/b then a<-1.The Attempt at a Solution So after a while I realized that I could prove that a<-1 by contradiction but first I have to prove that a<0. I figured out how to prove it but I'm not sure if my...- Sorgen

Linear Algebra: Lay's 4th Ed for Intro Course & Beyond
Thanks for the responses. I looked at these two books on amazon and they're pretty inexpensive, so I'm considering picking these up. The only issue that I have is that these two have gotten a lot of reviews that say that they're bad to learn linear algebra from. With no prior experience to...- Sorgen
