What's the toughest ME undergrad course?
at my university it was probably machine elements, not because its hard to understand or anything but because u needed to know all the equations for every mechanical component invented.- spanky489

What is the best 3d CAD software?
im pretty sure all 3d programs mentioned in this thread are enough to model the actual transformer but you should definitely keep an eye out for the 3d programs that are compatible with the CAM and CAE programs for your field.- spanky489

Gas Strut - Damping coeff and spring constant
p\cdot V^{n}=p_0\cdot V^n_0=constant \\ \frac{p}{p_0}=(\frac{V_0}{V})^n \\ F(s) --> \int_{0}^{F} dF = A \cdot \int_{p0}^{p} dp \\ F=A\cdot p_0 (\frac{p}{p_0}-1) \\ F(s)=A\cdot p_0\cdot ((\frac{h}{h-s})^n -1) \\ c(s)=\frac{dF}{ds} = \frac{A\cdot dp}{ds}=\frac{A^2\cdot dp}{dV} with some more...- spanky489

Ways of Strengthening Cantilever beams
deflection is a function of f(E,I,M) your best shot would be to increase the moment of inertia by choosing between different types of beams that suit your need.- spanky489

What is the best 3d CAD software?
when i was a intern at bosch siemens i strictly had to use UNIGRAPHICS aka UG, which is the corporations normalized CAD software. Otherwise most companies tend to use solidworks, catia, pro-engineer etc... these days there are a ton of options and you can't really say which one is the "best"...- spanky489

Rotary Seal Ideas for PVC Pressure Housings Underwater
you should probably be looking for something made out of NBR rubber and exclusively for rotary shafts (o-rings are usually for static elements). I suggest you take a look at the simmerings on simrits online catalog http://intl.simrit.de/web/public/products/eCatalog Now from all those options...- spanky489

Buckling Experiment: Preparing a Test Rig
take a steel profile, put a bucket on top and gradually fill it with water, given that with every phase you measure the bendage variables.- spanky489

Why are rotary lip seals and ball bearings used in lathe machine?
not sure what type of ball bearings are used in lathes but I am thinking radial, which means that they permit radial loads and a little bit of axial. then another good thing is that they are cheaper to produce than roller bearings(which don't tolerate axial loads). now I am guessing that the...- spanky489

Rotating blades and air’s resistance
if you want to calculate the torque for half of the rod use the formula bob s gave you and take half of the length, which is your variable r if i understand correctly. so \frac{r}{2} and when you insert it into the formula it should be (\frac{r}{2})^3 = \frac{r^3}{8}- spanky489

How Does Adding a Nozzle Affect Water Efflux Velocity and Energy Conservation?
mass flux stays the same, so you can calculate the 2nd speed with \dot{V} = A_{1} \cdot v_{1}= A_{2} \cdot v_{2}- spanky489

How to Specify Replacement Spur Gears for Worn-Out Parts?
i can say from the back of my head that you will need at least 3 things: module, # of teeth and a diameter, which the name i do not know in english but looking at a picture on wikipedia its either a pitch or base diameter, one of those 2.- spanky489

Why Is My Torque Calculation Incorrect for a 100mm Diameter Shaft?
the torque on the edge of your shaft is T=F*r , where F is the force transmitted through various mechanical mates unless your shaft is coming out of the power source directly. r is the radius=d/2. Power of your torque is P=T*w where w is the angular velocity like mech_engineer said. Now in...- spanky489

Pressure drop in elbows & bends in a pipe
bernoulli's equation(which is in fact posted in the pdf our colleague posted up higher), i just handed in my lab report last week on this topic. of course some parameters must be known in order to calculate the losses in bends. so basically this is what bernoullis equation looks like...- spanky489
