Would This be a Good Programming "Physics" Project?
Yep, the project - if I am able to get it working well, otherwise it will be just for fun - will be for a programming course I am taking this coming semester (it counts as 30% of the course grade), so as long as it fits their requirements it could be any subject. I thought it would be good...- stefan10

Would This be a Good Programming "Physics" Project?
Thanks. I am probably going to use a desktop with an i5 4690k and AMD r9 280 (I use this desktop for video games) so it is nice to hear that a common laptop would probably be able to do this. I was also looking into using pyopengl and pyopencl like somebody did in the following video, but I...- stefan10

Would This be a Good Programming "Physics" Project?
I have recently been doing a lot of programming in python for the past year or so, and consider myself to be okay with the language. I also have some experience with mathematical languages like the Wolfram language and Maple. Other than that, I am willing to learn C, C++, or Java for this...- stefan10

How Do You Find the Electric Potential Near an Infinitely Long Wire?
I already handed in the homework and got the solutions. Was suppose to manipulate the last expression to get it in a form in which I could get a limit. Thanks for the bump though. :)- stefan10

How Do You Find the Electric Potential Near an Infinitely Long Wire?
I am doing homework for my Intermediate Electricity & Magnetism class. We are currently working on Electric Potential. There are a few problems I have attempted but I have gotten stuck on. I think I keep getting stuck when I have to find what |r-r'| is for uniformly charged objects to some point...- stefan10

Graduate Calculating Ship Time w/ Varying Acceleration in Relativity
My only experience with special relativity has been in an introductory Modern Physics course. In that course I think we mostly used constant velocities or if we did do anything with accelerating objects the acceleration was constant or changed very few times (you can just add the few changes.) I...- stefan10

Understanding the Absolute Value Formula: Is it a Rule or a Myth?
You are most likely confusing the concepts of a formula and of a function. Formulas are best described as relationships of two or more variables. In mathematics they are derived using mathematical logic, which can incorporate function(s). Formulas can be represented as functions (either one...- stefan10

Introductory Quantum HW (Angular Momentum)
The question states Lz ψ = 0, I don't have any specific function for ψ. I think the question makes this claim because Lz= m*h-bar, and m=0 if l=0. Could I possibly conclude that L^2 = 0 since l=0, and therefore L^2 = Lz^2+Lx^2+Ly^2 implies Lx = Ly =0? L^2 = l(l+1)h-bar- stefan10

Introductory Quantum HW (Angular Momentum)
Homework Statement Consider a three-dimensional system with wave function ψ. If ψ is in the l = 0 state, we already know that Lzψ=0. Show that Lxψ=0 and Lyψ=0 as well. Homework Equations [Lx,Ly]ψ = i*h-bar*Lzψ The Attempt at a Solution I'm having trouble figuring out where to...- stefan10

Intermediate Mechanics and Intermediate Electricity & Magnetism
B (almost an A) in the first course, and a C in the second course. I had a lot of trouble with our programming assignments in the second course, and they were worth a considerable portion of the grade. We also did the differential forms of Maxwell's Equations, and I had trouble with the vector...- stefan10

The Math You Need to Learn Physics (Introductory Level)
If you are planning to major in physics (or a similar field or want to learn what physics major learns) you will take a Calculus-based introductory physics course. This means, that up until this point you should have a solid grasp of elementary algebra (Algebra II is the high school course) and...- stefan10

Intermediate Mechanics and Intermediate Electricity & Magnetism
So I took honors level introductory physics courses my first year. Here are the descriptions. I did worse in the second course than the first. This coming year I will be taking intermediate level courses for these topics. The difference is that I will have both Intermediate Mechanics I and...- stefan10
