Graduate Which way does the magnetism of the cubic iron struture point?
If you apply a field to iron the various domains move around, are the individual atoms of the FCC or BCC iron aligning with the field or does the unit cube tend to have an overall orientation which moves? If so then how would you know how the unit cubes are aligned relative to their poles...- Stickybees

Undergrad How to do a chi squared test on a linear fit
I'm getting a bit confused with the stats of a chi squared test, everyone in physics labs seems to use this as a test but I don't know why it's appropriate? My main question is how would I take a linear equation in say excel which has been fitted to a series of (x,y) data points (I do have...- Stickybees

Breit-Wigner formula derivation
Does anyone know where this forumula comes from? http://iopscience.iop.org/0067-0049/134/1/151/fulltext/ I don't quite understand the resonance widths, it's probably a naive question but what is 'resonating' in this context? Thanks!- Stickybees

High School Where can I find a list of proof identities?
Does anyone know if there is a good place to find a list of proof identities? Basic stuff like the disjoint or if-then in logic symbols. It would be nice to have a place to make sure I'm remembering them correctly and to search for more. Thanks!- Stickybees

Graduate What do the Ms in ml and ms quantum numbers stand for?
I think it must just be 'momentum' from searching a bit more.- Stickybees

Graduate What do the Ms in ml and ms quantum numbers stand for?
I first thought magnetic, but that only makes sense for ml, they're both projections though, does anyone know what they stand for? Thanks!- Stickybees

Undergrad Moment of intertia of a cuboid
Simple question but I've never been through the proofs to know what I'm plugging into. Are these components of the cuboid and can they just be added together for the total moment of inertia? Thanks!- Stickybees

High School Why Is 'B' Used For Referring To A Magnetic Field?
There's a reason for all of those, I is for 'intensity', L is because of Lenz' law, Q for energy I've not seen much but it's probably the same as for Q for heat as 'quantity' and B was because of the order Maxwell was using for his quantities (A for potential and stuff). It is of course entirely...- Stickybees

Route from physics to pure maths?
Honestly the mathematical logic and proofs is the part that I wanted to do anyway, my goal is just to properly have a mathematical basis for all of the methods I'm using and to be able to understand more abstract maths for personal interest. I could maybe start off with a course with logic and...- Stickybees

Route from physics to pure maths?
Well I'm assuming that most physics courses do about the same amount of maths alongside them, but so far, essentially everything inside this table of contents: http://www.cambridge.org/gb/knowledge/isbn/item1162976/?site_locale=en_GB 1. Preliminary algebra 2. Preliminary calculus 3. Complex...- Stickybees

Route from physics to pure maths?
The same reason they sponsor you to do a course in the first place? Albiet it would have to be related, but I can think a few which overlap the two a lot. But it's really the route that I was wondering if anyone knows much about :D- Stickybees

Route from physics to pure maths?
Assuming I finish my study with a BSc or MSc, what are your ideas on the best way to move into more pure maths? I was thinking that getting employed by a company and working out a way for them to pay for it would be good idea, but even so which courses are probably the best? Would I have to...- Stickybees

Lab reference material for physics undergrads?
Hey, I'm wondering if there is a small reference book/sheet or so around for writing up experiments in undergraduate lab work, mostly in the error analysis? How did/do you go about deciding on how to calculate various errors? Thanks!- Stickybees
