Guidance needed about physics field and post-secondary education
As of right now, my plan is get a bachelor's in ME and then probably try for a master's in aerospace engineering. I'd like to design spacecraft but I'm also very interested in physics, more specifically quantum physics and more theoretical physics. Is there a way I could incorporate my love of...- STS816

Sufficient hard drive space in a laptop for engineering?
Well I can't return it so I'll just have to make do with this one. I'll probably have to get the 12 cell battery which will add another pound or so but I guess I don't have a choice unless I put it on eBay.- STS816

Sufficient hard drive space in a laptop for engineering?
Yeah I'm beginning to think it would. The thing is though that I'm not sure if I can return this laptop or not and get my money back. If I'm not able to, do you think its going to be a huge hassle to lug this around with me?- STS816

Sufficient hard drive space in a laptop for engineering?
Well I'm definitely not getting a laptop and a desktop but like you said I don't exactly want to haul around my desktop replacement everywhere.- STS816

Sufficient hard drive space in a laptop for engineering?
Oh, I wasn't aware there was a specific forum for this. Sorry. My HP (didn't know I should stay away from them) has 500GB capacity 5400rpm, 2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 4GB DDR2 RAM, 16in widescreen with Brightview, Nvidia 9600M GT graphics card. Battery life is about 2.5hrs and it...- STS816

Sufficient hard drive space in a laptop for engineering?
I have a laptop at at the moment but I'm afraid that I chose the wrong one. Its a 16in, 7.1lb monster with a battery life of a measly 2.5hr max. I could upgrade the battery but it would add over a pound in weight and make it even bulkier though. I'm thinking about returning it (if I can) and...- STS816

Schools Note Taking in College: Graphics Tablet for Freshman
Yes, I was talking about a graphics tablet like that one. I think I'm going to stick with the trusty pencil and paper for the first semester or so and see how it works for me. After that, if I think I'd benefit from a graphics tablet, I'll get one but I don't want to over-complicate things...- STS816

Schools Note Taking in College: Graphics Tablet for Freshman
I'm heading off to college as a freshman in August and I am considering getting a graphics tablet to help with taking notes. Would anyone recommend this? Has anyone ever even tried this before? How well would this work with OneNote? My main issues are whether I would have enough desk space to...- STS816

Programs Will I be able to take classes that aren't part of my major?
I am signed up to be a ME major at the University of Kentucky but I've always loved physics, especially quantum physics. Am I going to be able to take some advanced physics classes without majoring in physics? I know there is a lot of physics in ME but not the kind I want to take. Is a double...- STS816

Programs Not sure if a physics major is right for me. Need insight into lifestyle
I've been on the fence between a physics major and an engineering major (of some sort) but I have a few problems associated with both. First off, what is it like to be a physicist? I really don't want to sit around and crunch numbers all day and not actually do anything with all the material...- STS816

Schools What if a major isn't offered at a particular college?
So if I do a physics major, could I potentially work on spacecraft once I have a degree? My main problem with a physics major is that I really don't want to sit around at a desk all day and crunch numbers. I'd actually like to do something with it.- STS816

Schools What if a major isn't offered at a particular college?
Thanks for the website but I think that is for grad students. Under their Departments list, aerospace engineering isn't listed at all.- STS816

Schools What if a major isn't offered at a particular college?
I'm torn between aerospace engineering and physics at the moment but I'm beginning to lean towards aerospace engineering. Now I'm seriously looking at University of Kentucky but they don't specifically offer it as a major but I've seen it grouped under mechanical engineering at other colleges...- STS816

Frictional Forces without coefficient
Homework Statement Block A (4.13kg) is on a table with a massless chord attached and draped over a frictionless pulley and the other end of the chord is attached to Block B (2.17kg). The system starts from rest. When the 2.71 kg mass has fallen through 0.388 m, its downward speed is 1.28 m/s...- STS816

Quantum Mechanics + Engineering = ?
Quantum Mechanics + Engineering = ? I really enjoy quantum mechanics but recently I've been looking at engineering, astronautical to be specific. I was wondering if there is some form of engineering that incorporates quantum mechanics. Thanks- STS816
