Graduate Is There a "Center of Force" for the Other Three Fundamental Forces?
Oh, interesting. I took Adv. Physics in high school and this is the first time I've ever heard of a "moment arm." I'm looking it up and learning a lot. Thank you very much. So is there a "color moment" for the strong force or is it more complicated?- Telos

Graduate Is There a "Center of Force" for the Other Three Fundamental Forces?
It's generally common knowledge that gravitational systems have a "center of gravity." Is there such a thing for the other three fundamental forces? For example, if one had a number of bar magnets on a tabletop, would there be a "center of electromagnetism?" It seems difficult to picture...- Telos

Interesting Economics That I Learned-Big Government is Better
The work presented in the first post is an extremely simplified version of the Keynesian model for GDP, which John Maynard Keynes used to invent what we now call "macroeconomics." Every student in the US who is taking a macroeconomics course this Fall is learning this right now, so I'm glad you...- Telos

Does electrolysis happen in the body?
Is there ever any electrical activity inside the body, normal or abnormal, minor or major, that results in electrolysis? For instance, there is a large amount of water in our bodies, and although electrolytes may make it conductive, does any of it ever interact with our body's electrical...- Telos

Medical Lucid Dreaming: Technique and Difficulty
There seem to be so many people asking this question on the net these days... I don't know what's so difficult to understand. Dreams are created by us. If you know that you're dreaming, you know that you are creating the scene.- Telos

NewScientist: Most scientific papers are probably wrong
NewScientist: "Most scientific papers are probably wrong" http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn7915 This is no surprise to me if we are considering papers in the social sciences. But I wonder what those of you in the other sciences think about this?- Telos

Undergrad Children Are Source Of Embarrassment
Why can't you teach her the math? When she's actually interested is when she's more likely to learn it - now matter how old she is. If you can explain it in math, and feel that this is a superior way of explaining it, you do her a disservice by not at least introducing her to concepts...- Telos

Undergrad Is Kinetic Energy Just Matter Interacting with Matter?
Enos, that almost sounds like energy "is" space. After all, space tautologically takes up space and has an unwarpped equilibrium value we might as well call zero. Pmb_phy, that's not what I meant. Please reread the thread.- Telos

Undergrad Is Kinetic Energy Just Matter Interacting with Matter?
Once again we don't seem to have found a satisfactory answer. Remarkably, we seem to have come to the conclusion that energy isn't real. It only exists in our models and not in reality. How strange that the entirety of physics would depend on something that isn't real? Or am I mistaken?- Telos

The Road To Reality - Is It Easy or Hard to Understand?
Our very own Chronon wrote review for RtR on his site, which I just discovered today. http://www.chronon.org/reviews/Road_to_reality.html It came to some of the same conclusions we had and more. I wish I had read it before I started reading the book!- Telos

'There is no time' - Wired magazine
All this man did was become a psuedo-Buddhist new age Hindi poser. His book will sell millions, of course. Now, if he invents a new system of mathematics to accompany his theory, that might be a different story. Then, after he dies, we might have a revolution. The article only mentioned...- Telos
