NASA NASA 2008 Regolith Excavation Challenge
Well, now i`m not sure. They just posted this According to the Team Agreement, the Team Leader, if an individual, must be a US citizen or permanent resident of the US. If a company, must have its primary place of business in the US. Team Members must also meet the same criteria. The team is...- treborly45

Undergrad Is Newton's Third Law always true in every scenario?
Are the forces ALWAYS exactly opposite of each other? Is there a way to accelerate a mass upwards, while having the "recoil" force travel on a horizontal plan or somehow completely eliminated? Any and all information concerning this is much appreciated. Rob- treborly45

Undergrad Calculating Aircraft Speed: Weight vs Thrust
So there's no way to even find an approximate speed given those variables? lets say the aircraft had no wings, it was shaped like a cone. 12 foot in dia, 24 feet long. its traveling horizontally at 10,000 feet. its mass is 3,100lbs there is 3,100lbs of lift and 20,000lbs of thrust...- treborly45

Undergrad Calculating Aircraft Speed: Weight vs Thrust
How do you figure out how fast an aircraft can travel, in Km/H ,if given the weight and the thrust. For example: the aircraft weighs 3,100 lbs and has 20,000lbs of thrust i thought it was 20,000/3,100= 6.5m/s/s which would be 23km/h ? but a 747 weighs around 850,00 lbs and has...- treborly45

High School Find Weight of Passenger Jet Plane
measure the wingspan, find out how much the wings can lift at different speeds. Jump in the plane and start going down the runway until it takes off. Take into account wind speed.- treborly45

Is there life in the universe, and if so has it visited Earth?
well, for one. Isnt there a star like 6.5 light years away? And maybe their just sending unmanned drones to test for life, Just like we do on mars. Also, You don't know how long they have been here for( if at all), so can't really judge their crash record.- treborly45

NASA NASA 2008 Regolith Excavation Challenge
I just got an email back, " Participation in the challenge is open, but the registered team leader will need to be a US person or company" I was going to do this myself, so don't know if i can compete. Dont really know many people in the states.- treborly45

NASA NASA 2008 Regolith Excavation Challenge
Well, I just found this. "Teams from Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., Livermore, Calif., Berkeley, Calif., Fulks Run, Va., Rolla, Mo., Berkley, Mich., Milwaukee, and Vancouver, British Columbia, have registered to participate in the challenge" So I guess I will be able to compete.- treborly45

NASA NASA 2008 Regolith Excavation Challenge
I thought i saw a Canadian team in some moon buggy race.. Not sure though. I emailed someone asking if i can compete, but they haven't responded. Its kinda stupid if i cant, that's mostly all we Canadians can do for the space program.- treborly45

NASA NASA 2008 Regolith Excavation Challenge
Hey, i Just heard about these challenges that they have been doing since 2005. I saw the machines they created for 2007, and No one won. Well, the prize is now like over 350,000 for 2008. I`m thinking of giving it a shot, Just don't know if i can enter... The competition is in the States, Can...- treborly45

What RPM Must a Shaft Reach for Arms to Extend Perpendicular?
I can't figure that out. Can you do this one for me? each arm is 10 inches long , arm weighs 3 lbs each, shaft spins at 2600 rpm. How much tension in lbs is on the rope.- treborly45

What RPM Must a Shaft Reach for Arms to Extend Perpendicular?
Another question related to this topic... Take the diagram in my first post. You raise each arm to 45°, then tie a rope to the end of each arm which then connects back to the main shaft also at 45°. As you spin the shaft the arms rise, until the rope stops it from going past 45°. How to you...- treborly45
